The Amazing Race 16: Cowboys Run Perfect "Toughest" Leg
Leg 8 Commentary and Recap by RTVC Senior Staff Writer Jenny Lane
April 6, 2010

"We don't quit."
Previously on The Amazing Race 16, the six remaining teams flew to the island nation of Seychelles.

At the detour, three of the teams weren’t able to keep their coconuts in their cart, and lost valuable time.

Steve and Allie were doing well, but then left their backpacks behind when they boarded a boat. They decided not to go back and get their belongings, and it landed them in first place.

Jet and Cord didn’t read their last clue completely, and were sent back to redo the final task. This put them in last place, but it was a non-elimination leg. This week, they’ll have to complete an extra task, and try to move ahead in the pack at the same time.

In Seychelles, the teams are departing from the seventh pit stop.

Steve and Allie, traveling lightly, are departing first at 7:22 p.m. They are told to fly to Penang, Malaysia. When they land, they will find the Snake Temple, where they will find their next clue.

To get to the airport, teams will board a boat at 2:00 a.m. to get to a neighboring island. This means that the teams will bunch up again, and maybe (probably) that Steve and Allie would have had time to go back for their backpacks.

Four minutes later, Dan and Jordan leave the pit stop in second place. Brent and Caite leave in third place, at 9:15, followed by Louie and Michael a minute later. In the back of the pack are Carol and Brandy at 10:19 and Jet and Cord at 10:22.

As they wait for the boat, Brent and Caite, and Louie and Michael talk about how much they like each other. They all say they like snakes, and one of the guys has a tattoo of a serpent on his arm. He says “the serpent in the game so far has been Carol.” I’m not sure which one of the guys it is, but it’s the shorter one…and to be honest, I’m still not sure which one of the girls is Carol. They both agree to U-Turn the girls if given the chance. In fact, lovely Caite says “U-Turn the f*ck out of em!”

Steve and Allie arrive, and Louie and Michael are nice enough to share some of their clothes (including underwear) with Steve. Unless it happened and we just weren’t shown the footage, Caite apparently didn’t have the same spirit, and didn’t share any of her stuff with Allie.

At 2:00, the boat departs with all six teams aboard. They all get on the same flights to Malaysia, on a 21 hour flight.

In Penang, Malaysia, teams race for cabs at the airport and head for the Snake Temple. Dan and Jordan get an aggressive cab driver, and speed ahead to the front of the pack.

Dan and Jordan arrive at the Snake Temple in first place, followed a second behind by Brent and Caite. They are given a Detour, and must choose between “Buddhist Tradition” and “Chinese Custom.”

In Buddhist Tradition, teams make.....
