Can anybody
beat them?
The Amazing Race continues from a camp-out in a forest preserve in Malawi.

Last week we got rid of no one.

If the producers are trying to shake things up with this strange business of never quite knowing how many will go home, they are succeeding.

Tonight is a double U-Turn. And Ernie and Cindy still have the Express Pass.

While we sit through the pre-caps and credits, I’ll ask you to ponder all the possibilities of those two facts and all the “what-ifs” that can go with it.

Oh, we haven’t yet been told how many teams will go home tonight either.

Nothing is predictable until Phil tells us the rules.

It’s 5:28 a.m. and still full dark. Tommy and Andy complete with one of those cool headlamps, tear open their clue and learn they have to go to the town of Salima.

It’s a two-hour bus ride. This would be a crowded local bus, not one of the fancy cross-country busses they had in Thailand.

They also learn “Caution: Double U-Turn Ahead”.

They boys say “oh oh”. They also remind us about their ongoing luck with the “however”.

Three times they are shown being bumped up the standings because of another team’s error. As they say, so much for flying under the radar.

They grab a taxi to get to where they can catch a bus.

Justin and Jennifer depart at 5:39. The sun is just starting to come up.

They confide in us that they may bump heads but they are very close.

Justin says that it was Jennifer he trusted when he first came out to their family. OK. Glad to hear that. What’s it got to do with this Race?

Now it’s Jeremy and Sandy one minute later and Laurence and Zac one minute after that. They reinforce the upcoming Double U-Turn for us.

This is, so far, four teams leaving in the span of twelve minutes. I’m guessing that time will be immaterial and they will all be on the same bus.

Well, that was a good guess. Tommy and Andy have arrived in Lilongwe at the bus terminal.

The bus leaves at 7:00 a.m. and you cannot buy tickets in advance. You just pay when you get on the bus.

It’s going to be a real.....
