Top Chef Masters: Three Chefs Face The Final Elimination Yell At Your TV Recap and Commentary by RTVC Senior Staff Writer Kathleen June 16, 2011
It’s here; the Top Chef Masters finale. Finally.
At least I think it’s finally the finale.
They’ve played with my head before by having an extra show before the end or a two parter or something of that nature.
I’m not sure, however, that they can drum up enough drama on this outing to create an extra show.
A quick wander over to BravoTV.com isn’t desirable because of the need to put on rubber gloves and dig through the entire Unreal Icky Housewives of the Universe franchise, but I did it anyway.
Got thoughts? Post them at the end.
This week is the last time this show is listed. The following week is lots of Kathy Griffin. That’s telling.
The title of the episode is not “finale” but rather “My Life as a Chef”.
I’ve got to tell you that in prior seasons, this has been my favorite episode.
We have watched these celebrated chefs get positively sappy and weepy telling their stories in food. They make beautiful and unexpected dishes that talk about their lives and their families.
They design and cook things that remind them of where it started. They evoke the textures and aromas of love. In the past I have almost been able to taste the dish so pure is their story telling.
While I’ve become quite fond of Mary Sue, Traci and Floyd, none of them are Rick Bayless, or Hubert Keller, or Marcus Samuelson.
Or Jonathan Waxman, Rick Noonen, or Susan Feniger.
I guess I’m just an old fuss-pot. I’ve got my pantheon of heroes and don’t try to confuse me with new kids.
So tonight we get to see and hear about the food journey of these three talented people. It is sad that the tasting part will be second-hand and filtered through the entitled opinions of Mr. Oseland.
You have noticed, haven’t you, that if one hundred diners say that a particular dish is perfect and the best they have ever eaten, James Oseland will advise us that it had too much/little salt or clashed with the color scheme of the napkins?
It is always any little nit to be picked to give himself some camera time. I have yet to hear him say “I agree with the diners” yay or nay on any subject. “Contrary” is his middle name for the purposes of this show.
This is a wide open contest now for three talented people.
